Top 5 Tarot Tips
If you’re here and you’re new to this Tarot world, WELCOME! You belong here just as much as everyone else.
Tarot can be an extraordinary tool for introspection, self-help, connecting to God/Spirit/Universe etc and yes, for predicting the future outcomes of your situations. As long as Tarot has been around, it has touched the lives of people from all walks and creeds. Don’t let anybody tell you it doesn’t belong to you. Tarot belongs to all who desire it, even a little bit.
Before we get into my personal tips for Tarot reading, please be mindful that energy work requires strong self-awareness and protective measures. Treat Tarot as you would a Ouija board. Both are energetic portals and you’ll want to set appropriate boundaries between yourself, your environment, your clients and even between yourself and the actual energies that flow.
You can do what you want for protection, there’s plenty of information out there on crystals to work with, ritual work, brujeria salt methods etc but I personally keep it simple and use prayer. I pray to be protected as I open up the channels of communication and I pray for God/Spirit/Universe etc to only allow kindred spirits serving my highest purpose to reach me.
Again, do what you need to to protect yourself but don’t skip that step. It’s the most important.

TAROT TIPS FOR BEGINNERS
1) Meditate
I mean, it should go without saying but don’t trust a damn thing on the internet that excludes meditation from Tarot. There is no alternative nor substitution for meditation. Trust me, I tried looking for one because I hated it at first and it felt like a chore. Truth is, if you can’t sit alone with yourself in silence, in awareness of yourself then you don’t have any kind of business with Tarot. Meditation will help you end the eternal struggle of channeled messages vs self-suggestion. If you find yourself struggling to interpret the cards intutively, if you struggle interpreting your WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE intutively, please meditate. 15 minutes a day can cure everything less than perfect about your Tarot practice and your whole life. I’m not exaggerating. Try it.
2) Prayer
I know not everyone out there is comfortable with prayer (or calling it prayer) but there’s something powerful about setting your intentions out loud, with your whole chest. Pray for protection, pray to be protected against your own self-centeredness before beginning a reading. Pray to be shown the clearest message possible, the most helpful message possible and allow that intention to clear the way between yourself and your Tarot cards. It seems small but it works. Communicating out loud with the energies enables you to hear, feel and see them when they reply to your requests.
3) Throw Away the Guide
Seriously, you don’t need it. Intuition is like a muscle. Everyone has muscles but their definition and size depends on diet and exercise. I recommend going through the deck at least one time on your own without references to start training yourself to listen to the cards themselves. Take notes on any intutive feelings, messages, sounds, ideas or visions that come to you during this process. Hold up the card and simply ask, “What do you mean?” or “What do you want to say to me?” then take notes. I recommend going through the whole deck twice. The first time, just note the first things that come to mind. The next round, listen a little more carefully and add to your notes. I promise you, taking this slightly more challenging route to learning the deck will do more for you in the long run than simply memorizing what’s in the guidebook.
The deck itself will teach you its traditional meanings first before expanding into specific messages for you. Trust yourself. Trust your deck.
4) Establish A Bond
Your first Tarot deck is special because it personally ushers you through the story of the Tarot. Much like a person, it won’t tell you its deepest darkest secrets right off the bat. Give it time to get to know you. The best methods I can recommend for establishing a bond with your deck are to sleep with it under your pillow. Sleep with it under your pillow at least three nights in a row and by the end of that third night, that deck will know you better than YOU know you.
Another method I used was simply taking it with me wherever I went. I took my first deck to work with me, to outings with friends, to church! That deck went on vacation to Vegas, Mexico etc. The purpose of this is to allow it to learn how you behave and communicate in any given circumstance. The deck will adapt and send messages to you in a way that you’ll easily understand. Again, don’t knock it ’til you try it.
5) Practice Daily
There is no substitute for consistent effort. Pull a card or two for yourself daily and take note of how those energies manifested during your day. Practice makes perfect!
